Planning a barbecue this weekend?

Every year there are 5,700 grill fires, causing $37 million in damages, 100 injuries and 10 fatalities occur. July is National Grilling Month and to keep you from becoming one of these statistics, we have some tips to follow according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

  • Always operate your barbecue on a level surface
  • Keep a fire extinguisher nearby when grilling
  • Don’t move the grill once it is lit
  • Keep children and pets away from the grill
  • Protect whoever is grilling with a heavy apron and oven mitts that extend over the forearm
  • Only use lighter fluid specifically designed for grilling
  • Never grill indoors or in enclosed areas
  • Wait until the grill has cooled before storing/covering it.  You should soak charcoal briquettes with water to ensure they are out before disposing them.

Have a wonderful time at your barbecue this weekend.
